Springfield Piano Academy provides private weekly piano lessons to children ages four through eighteen. During private lessons, we work on:

  • Technique - We build the ability to create beautiful tone quality through a regimen of Peery Technique skills.

  • Note Reading - We use Frances Clarke Music Tree and Faber Piano Adventures methods for weekly note reading pieces.

  • Theory and Ear Training - These skills are practiced weekly using the Celebrate Theory and Four Star Sight Reading and Ear Training methods.

  • Repertoire - We explore a mix of classical and contemporary literature.

Students are provided a monthly theory and performance group class in which we work on:

  • Performance Practice - Students perform solo pieces for their peers to help practice performing music in front of others. This cultivates the ability to create a better public performance.

  • Theory Games - Students play fun activities and competitive games to reinforce music theory concepts introduced during private lessons. These activities also prepare students for annual National Guild of Piano Teachers, Decatur Area Music Teachers Association or Royal Conservatory of Music examinations.

  • Peer Interaction - Group class is a time in which students can learn from each other as well as create music together.

Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.
